Values and Priorities

Laurel's City Council Priorities:

  • Transparent Communication: Implementing and improving processes to increase communication between Council and Residents.

  • Housing Affordability: Addressing the current housing crisis through the reduction of building barriers and policies that impact homeownership and development, in addition to long-term solutions for addressing the unhoused.

  • Fiscal Accountability: My commitment is to safeguard taxpayers' money by identifying inefficiencies and supporting effective financial management. My goal is to create more accountability and transparency that works in the best interest of our community.

I have dedicated the last four years to learning what makes Grand Junction a special place to live. I currently serve as the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County, have served on the ARPA committee for the City and continue to engage through several other advisory and stakeholder groups.

Born in Georgia, I have lived in several different states over the years and fell in love with the city of Grand Junction because of the small town feeling and sense of community present.  I believe that it is imperative to plan for balanced growth so we can protect the character of our community.

My background is in Nonprofit Management, Education, and Human Services.  I am also a small business owner, a member of the Housing & Building Association of Western Colorado, and the recipient of the 2023 Community Service Award from the Grand Junction Area Realtors Association (GJARA).
